Four differences between twin-screw extrusion testing machines and single-screw extruders

2024-10-29

The twin-screw extrusion testing machine is a commonly used mechanical equipment in industrial processing. It is generally used for the plasticization processing of some materials. In many fields, it plays an important role. In fact, in addition to the twin-screw extrusion testing machine, the single-screw extruder is also a commonly used equipment in industrial production. The twin-screw extrusion testing machine was developed on the basis of it. So what is the working principle of a twin-screw extrusion testing machine? What is the difference between it and a single-screw extruder?

Working principle of twin-screw extrusion testing machine

1. Co-rotating intermeshing twin-screw extrusion testing machine This type of extruder has two types: low speed and high speed. The former is mainly used for profile extrusion, while the latter is used for special polymer processing operations.

(1) Close mesh extruder. Low-speed extruders have a close-meshing screw geometry in which the rib profile of one screw closely matches the rib profile of the other screw, a conjugate screw profile.

(2) Self-cleaning extruder. High-speed co-rotating extruders with closely matched helix profiles. This kind of screw can be designed to have a fairly small screw gap, so that the screw has a closed self-cleaning effect. This kind of twin-screw extrusion testing machine is called a tight self-cleaning co-rotating twin-screw extrusion testing machine.

2. The gap between the two screw grooves of the closely meshed counter-rotating twin-screw extrusion testing machine is very small (than the gap in the co-rotating twin-screw extrusion testing machine) much smaller), so positive conveying characteristics can be achieved.

3. Non-meshing twin-screw extrusion testing machine The center distance between the two screws of the non-meshing twin-screw extrusion testing machine is greater than the sum of the two screw radii.

The difference between twin-screw extrusion testing machine and single-screw extruder

1. In terms of price: single-screw extruders have simple structures and low prices; twin-screw extruders have complex structures and high prices.

2. In terms of plasticizing ability: the single screw is suitable for plasticizing extrusion of polymers and extrusion processing of pellet materials. It has little shear degradation of polymers, but the material stays in the extruder for a long time. The twin-screw has good mixing and plasticizing capabilities, and the material stays in the extruder for a short time, making it suitable for powder processing.

3. In terms of processing capacity and energy consumption: the twin-screw extrusion testing machine has large output, fast extrusion speed, and low energy consumption per unit output, while the single-screw extruder is inferior.

4. In terms of operability: the single screw is easy to operate and the process control is simple; the twin screw operation is relatively complex and the process control requirements are high.
